Good Afternoon NTHS Families
With the CUPE strike now over, all extra-curricular activities have resumed and spring sports are up and running. Our teams begin playing games next week. Tomorrow North Trail will be hosting the debate provincials. We are thrilled to welcome 26 schools from across the province. Winners of the competition will advance to Nationals (Juniors head to Montreal and Seniors to Saskatoon). North Trail is proud to have two teams qualify this year, supported by over forty dedicated student leaders volunteering their time. What an incredible show of community spirit!
Please make sure to check the calendar of events below, as we have a number of events happening this month.

Our grade 11s finished 30th of 40 schools in the province. One grade 11 student, Kyle Yin, finished in the top 25% of the Pascal Competition and will receive a medal of distinction.
North Trail Student Wins Prestigious Art Award
North Trail High School is proud to celebrate Mackenzie Birkett (Grade 11) for winning the Award of Excellence in the 2025 Show Off Art Competition at the Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts). This national competition highlights top high school artists from across Canada and winning is a tremendous achievement.
Mummer is a heartfelt tribute to Mackenzie’s Newfoundland heritage and family traditions. Inspired by childhood memories with their Nan and Pop, they crocheted a mummer doll to honor the lively Newfoundland Christmas tradition. Though they never went mummering, their Pop’s daily call of “Any mummers ’llowed in?” and family celebrations left a lasting impression. This piece captures those cherished moments and the joy, fun, and community that mummers represent.
In addition to Mackenzie’s well-earned recognition, North Trail’s Art program will receive a $250 bursary to support future student creativity. As North Trail’s Art teachers, Mr. Fallis and Ms. Drisdelle are incredibly proud of Mackenzie and this outstanding achievement.
Joan Ethier Women in Science Grant
North Trail is excited to announce that we will be launching an all-girls First Tech Challenge (FTC) robotics team this year. This is possible thanks to the Joan Ethier Women in Science Grant in partnership with Education Matters. Engaging young women in the fields of Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) is a priority for North Trail, and this new team looks to give young women an exciting opportunity in STEM. We would like to thank the donor for their generous sponsorship of $3500 and are looking forward to a spring of designing, building, and programming robots. Some of their skills will be showcased at the CTS/ Fine and Performing Arts Showcase in May.
