Good Evening NTHS Families:

Ms. Lomon, who is in charge of Leadership, would like to thank  everyone who came to the pep rally and participated in the spirit days this week. There was so much energy and school spirit brought to the building, especially yesterday during Halloween. Today, students were also beautifully dressed in cultural attire in honour of Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas.

Indigenous Veterans Day and Remembrance Day Assembly (Thursday)

This upcoming week, we will be honouring veterans, by recognizing Indigenous Veterans Day (November 8) and Remembrance Day (November 11), through a school wide assembly. While not all students will be able to physically attend the assembly (due to space limitations), it will be live streamed for all students. To accommodate the assembly, there will be a modified bell schedule.

Indigenous Focused PD Day Maatoomsii'Pookaiks (Children First)

On Friday, students will have no school while teachers engage in a day of professional learning. According to the CBE website, "This day of professional learning began in October 2021 and is designed for all staff to develop and apply foundational knowledge of Indigenous Education in the CBE, regardless of role. We are committed to acknowledging and responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action, which includes providing education on the history and legacy of residential schools, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, Treaties and Indigenous rights, Indigenous law, and Indigenous-Crown relations (TRC Call to Action #57)".

Student Pick Up After Extracurricular Events

This is just a gentle reminder that students should be making arrangements with their families to be picked up directly after extracurricular events. This prompt departure allows facility staff the time needed to clean the building and prepare it for the following school day or external rentals. We have a number of outside organizations that use our space.

Alberta-Spain Virtual Exchange Program

This school year, Alberta Education continues to offer a virtual student exchange program with Spain. Alberta Education, in collaboration with its exchange partner in Asturias, Spain, has been working to develop a 6-week virtual exchange program for students starting in February 2025. This is a free-of-charge, excellent opportunity for students to make language connections. Please find  attached a brief overview of the virtual exchange program.

The minimum language requirement is for students to have completed Spanish Language and Culture 10 (or equivalent) by the start of the exchange program. They also need a Liaison Teacher. Those interested in the program are invited to speak with Ms. Dunsmoor on Mondays and Wednesdays, either during morning tutorial or at lunch, in room 2412.
